The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Developmen​t has programs to assist homebuyers, homeowners, and renters

HUD’s mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. HUD is working to strengthen the housing market to bolster the economy and protect consumers; meet the need for quality affordable rental homes; utilize housing as a platform for improving quality of life; build inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination.

Washington County Community Action Council’s mission is to assist people in economic need in our community to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency while respecting their diversity.

We envision a Maryland where people independently support themselves and their families and where individuals are safe from abuse and neglect. We will aggressively pursue opportunities to assist people in economic need, provide prevention services, and protect vulnerable children and adults.

HAWC is a public, nonprofit corporation established by an act of the Board of County Commissioners of Washington County, Maryland. Our programs are partially funded by the federal, state and county government, but are also dependent on rental fees, grants, and other funding sources. Our mission is providing decent, safe and affordable housing solutions that strengthen our community by focusing on local needs.

Since 1990, the Washington County Mental Health Authority has been responsible for planning, developing and monitoring mental health services in Washington County to improve the quality of life for the citizens with mental illness. WCMHA has also been an advocate for consumers at the state and local levels and has been a resource for providers and the general public.

ReThink creates awareness for, and inspires people to learn about, public housing. This initiative encourages the public to realize the benefits that public housing offers individuals as well as the greater community.

Hagerstown Home Store is a homebuyer education and counseling program, operated by Hagerstown Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc. We are a community-based nonprofit organization.

The National Institute of Mental Health reveals that approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness in a given year. In addition, 1 in 5 youth aged 13–18 experience a severe mental disorder at some point during their life.  The Jack E. Center for Well-Being, is staffed with skilled professionals to aid in empowering and guiding children, adults, and families presenting with issues.
